There are many ways to improve your skills when it comes to a foreign language. Some are effective, others are not. If you come across a foreign word or expression which you can not remember, then you would need more training. WordTutor will help you develop your vocabulary and language skills by letting you create your own words and translations lists, which can be synchronized with an online server. You can also use the software's advanced learning method or take quizes.

The application is supported by Windows XP, Vista and Win 7. Its setup file is not large and the installation process is straightforward. When it is done, you can run the program right away, without needing administrative rights.

A dictionary and the tutor itself can be found under different tabs on the interface. A series of vocabularies are listed in the tutor section. The existing ones can be edited or deleted and you may also create new ones. Regardless if you are creating or editing a vocabulary, the layout of the interface will be the same. The difference is that some options will not be available when editing. If you want to create a new vocabulary, you must select an existing family of words or type a new one. The source and output languages can be selected from separate drop menus on the bottom edge of the window, where you will also find buttons for adding or removing words. After clicking the Add option, a new entry will appear in a list, where you can type a word in one part and its translation in the other.

WordTutor lets you import new vocabularies or export existing ones as TXT or CSV files. It is also possible to synchronize the vocabularies with an online server. In this way, you can share your vocabularies with other people, over the Internet and keep them updated at the same time. If you make a mistake, when translating a word, it can be corrected by your friends or your teacher, thanks to the synchronization features.

The software is much more than a collection of words and translations. It focuses on learning as well. Your training criteria can be defined beneath the vocabularies list. You may view all the words and translations from a selected vocabulary and mark them as known or unknown. At a later date, you can train yourself with words which you inserted yourself, accessed, memorized or not, according to a certain timetable. For example, you can train with words that you memorized between two dates or during a previous number of months or days. A quiz is available as well. This feature will present a word and you will have to write its translation.

WordTutor's dictionary can be used to find a specific word and its translation. Just type the word, hit the Enter key or click a magnifying glass icon. If the word exists in the program's database, it will be translated immediately, in your selected language. You will also find a keyboard translator, included in the package. It can be launched with a separate .exe file and it will translate your typed letters to a language of your choosing.

Pros

WordTutor lets you learn foreign words in various ways. It provides flexible training features, so you can study in a comfortable manner. It comes with its own words collection, but you can also import new vocabularies and synchronize them over the Internet, to share them or make sure that your translations are correct.

Cons

Some features are locked in the application's trial version. WordTutor's flexible design will help you expand your vocabulary and improve knowledge about a foreign language, in a simple and fun manner.
